I watched star trek today and thought of this...

Lately...
So its about time for a new post... lets see, instead of covering everything that has happened since that spring I'll just jump to things that I've done in the last two weeks. I made lasagna and it was awesome! I was pretty scared of how it would turn out, but it ended up being great! and since there are only two of us the one pan lasted about three days! what I really want to get good at is making bread. I'm alright at making a standard loaf, but I want to be able to make some crazy stuff like cheese bread and zucchini bread. These don't seem that hard, but for some reason they intimidate me.
What else... I had an audition that I am actually happy about. Last week I had my 'annual' audition on my french horn. For these auditions you have to play a prepared piece, scales and sight reading, and you have to play it for the Band Officer, the Band Master, the Enlisted Conductor and any other staff members that want to sit in and listen. For this audition I played the second movement of Morceau De Concert by Saint Saens. Its really slow and melodic, which is great because I'm horrible at playing fast and rhythmic. I was pretty nervous, but played well. I got the score that I wanted. Its not the best, but It was what I was working for. Now I can build on that and get even better. Bryce has his audition this next week and I know he'll be awesome, he always is. :D
This weekend is the Columbus Day 96. (we don't have to be back at work until Wednesday!) Tomorrow, Columbus Day, me and Bryce are going to hike to Hiji Falls. Its our two year anniversary of when Bryce and I got engaged. It'll be fun to revisit. :)
This coming week should be interesting. The band is beginning to work on our field show for the marching festival in Tokyo next month. We're playing some crazy music and I'm sure the sets are going to be just as crazy. I hope we and pull it off; my fingers are crossed.

Home Alone
So, i'm home all alone. :( Bryce is away at an exercise. this is actually the first time Bryce has been away from home for more than three days. its pretty weird. the house seems so big and there are so many things that i don't feel like doing when he's not here. i have almost four hours that i spend at home (at work for the rest of the day) and they usually consist of: taking a shower, cooking and eating dinner while watching 'The Office,' cleaning a little bit, doing a photoshop tutorial, then going to bed and falling asleep while watching an anime. (i just finished 'Castle in the Sky') i don't want to say its depressing, but it sure is lonely. i guess its kind of a glimpse into what it would be like if he ever got deployed. now i know why military wives have all those babies. to give them something to do!
good news though! i just found out today that he gets to come home tomorrow! not for long though :( he still has more of the exercise to finish.

Back Home
So I'm back home. I had the most wonderful christmas break. Wonderful and well deserved. leading up to the break me and Bryce had a full month of birthday balls in November, to include a jam packed week in Tokyo for the Budokan Marching Festival, and three christmas concerts, the last one being the day before we left! We finally got on our way, only to be traveling for over 24 hours! but it was worth it. Bath was amazing!! It was wonderful to be with family again. It was so much fun to buy little presents for everyone and eat great food. Me and Bryce have now decided to make our own bread and i'm going to track down a recipe for cornish pasties. yum! After the wonderful christmas in Bath, we traveled down to Germany to visit Bryce's sister and her family living in Mannheim and spent new years with Brenda, her husband Tim and their children Walter, Belle and William. Germany was great! We were also able to spend a day with Bryce's cousin, Jodie, and her family. We visited Schossberg as well as Heidlberg Castle, did some shopping in Heidlberg and visited downtown Mannheim. Sadly though, it all had to end and we got on our plane and came back to okinawa.
It's now the beginning of a new year. I have never been good at making resolutions. This year however I think goal setting is going to be a good way for me to focus my energies on something other than work. I also have some really great motivation. Last month I ran the worse physical fitness test ever! and the next one I run will be in about six months. So, I have five months to shape up. Bryce is going to be buying a new road bike in the next week or so and once he does we'll be biking to and from work as well as little excursions now and then. So wish me luck and with Bryce here to keep me in line hopefully I'll be successful.
